De Ballet of de Boll Weevil is a traditional folksong from the American South, where southerners curse the insect for its destructive ways. The song is a "ballet" (ballad, or narrative) with dozens of recorded verses. The imaginations of field workers led to the boll weevil's immortalization in this song, which personifies it as a trickster, but one with considerable power over the farmers who thought of themselves as 'owning' the land.

The music is at once a blues, a two-step, a cakewalk, a recitative, and Dixieland jazz. The cello is called upon to be a dance-band rhythm section in accompanying the voices. For mixed choir (SATB) and cello, with piano accompaniment for rehearsal only.
