Robert Carsen's controversial staging of Bernstein's Candide receives its London premiere at English National Opera (23 June - 12 Jul).

Already seen at the Théâtre du Chatelet in Paris and at La Scala in Milan, Carsen's vision recaptures the satirical bite of Voltaire's original, with 'West-Failure' clearly situated in the White House and a parade of contemporary political leaders.

Candide Toby Spence; Cunegonde Anna Christy/Marnie Breckenridge; Doctor Pangloss/Voltaire Alex Jennings; The Old Woman Beverley Klein;

Conductor Rumon Gamba; Director Robert Carsen; Designer Michael Levine; Lighting Designers Robert Carsen/Peter Van Praet; Choreographer Rob Ashford; Costume Designer Buki Shiff
