Dutch pianist Ronald Brautigam is one of the most respected pianists of his generation. He built his excellent reputation as a player equally at home on the Steinway as on the fortepiano. His many CD recordings of works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn received several record awards, and rave reviews in the international press. On this CD he plays lesser known piano works by a composer who is close to his heart: Robert Schumann. We hear the youthful and passionate Noveletten Op. 21, the unjustly neglected Allegro Op. 8 and two cycles from Schumann’s later years, Gesänge der Frühe and Fantasiestücke Op. 111, music of a strange and haunting simplicity and beauty. Recorded in the early 90s.
