Repertoire Note

Orcus, presented by the composer in a version for double bass clarinet, is a virtuoso solo which gives the instrument the character of a 'bass nightingale'. Mockery and humour, however, are disregarded. This composition rather is a piece of archaic language-like character. Lamenting vocal tones are crossed dramatically by staccatos.
