Stefan Dohr, horn
Composer's Notes

"I've known Stefan Dohr for several years. I have experienced him as a horn player and even as a conductor. I am very familiar with his prudent and adventurous musicality. So it was a pleasure for me that Michael Haefliger from the Lucerne Festival wanted a solo piece for him. The horn is traditionally a calling and signalling instrument, which was reinterpreted in the 19th century as the centrepiece of the romantic orchestra. But it can do so much more than blare into the distance or sing soulfully. I met with Stefan Dohr in Frankfurt am Main, who playfully showed me a completely different side to the instrument, including the grotesque, comical and abysmal. My work for him is a character piece that can serve as a fresh morning serenade as well as a lively night piece." (Jüri Reinvere)
