‘My first trio, in its traditional instrumentation, was originally conceived as a lively, briskly conversational prelude to a second, larger trio - one that might perhaps also come into being at some point in the distant future. In my chamber music - which increasingly serves as a counterweight to my large-scale, expansive symphonic works - I have developed a musical language that operates beyond the realm of text and grand philosophical concepts; this trio is no exception, its agility standing in a kind of contrast to the long lines of my recent works - such as the finale of ‘... The Song of the Two Earths’. I always like to add that composing chamber music is a special privilege and an exercise in restraint, helping me maintain a clear perspective amidst my symphonic work.’ (Jüri Reinvere)
