‘My Quintet for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, and Horn was born out of the thought of the pure joy of making music—that moment when five musicians come together to tell a story with sounds without words. You won't find any spectacular technical experiments in this work, but neither can it be reduced to mere simplicity. Beneath the surface of the free sound lies a precise, strictly organized structure, which, however, remains hidden from the listener's ear. For this music—like any other—is not intended for analysis, but for aesthetic experience. It is an invitation to perceive the counterpoint of the five instruments, their changing timbres, and the tensions and harmonies circling between them.
Thus, the Quintet was created as a piece ‘for the pleasure of making music’ - but in a deeper sense than mere entertainment. It is the joy of encountering music that both challenges and captivates. For even if the composer cannot guarantee anyone an aesthetic experience, he can still try to create conditions under which such an experience becomes possible.’ (Krzysztof Meyer)
