Traditions are the deep and true roots of the culture of a people, of a land. With the wonderful symphonic rhapsody Impressioni di una tarda estate italiana (Impressions of an Italian Late Summer), we travel with Pierangelo Valtinoni, who leads us through his and my land. We start in the north, in the Veneto and the majestic Dolomites with two very well-known songs: Monte Canino and La Montanara. Then we proceed southward, down to "balmy" Sardinia, to "fragrant" Sicily, and then we ascend again to "passionate" Naples and to "easy-going" Rome. We end our journey back in the Veneto with "romantic" Venice.
Pierangelo Valtinoni’s Italy is a land that continues to sing of the natural beauty of the melodies of Bellini, Verdi, and Pucchini that sing in the hearts. With warmth, color, formal balance, a sense for refined instrumentation, and perfect proportions. Italy is composed in this score with all its fantasy, joy, inspiration, with its passion and yearning, nonchalant, elegant, majestic, and strong. One has to love this score – just as one has to love Italy.
