Composer's Notes
Two Pianos was begun in mid-March 2020, shortly after the outbreak of Covid-19 in the United States.
My wife, Beryl, and I were visiting our son in Los Angeles and because of the pandemic, we, like many others, were reluctant to fly back to New York as we had planned.
Instead, we spent several unplanned months in LA. During this strange and unsettling time, I began work on Two Pianos. It immediately began as a rhythmically irregular exchange of chords, not at all like my usual music. By September it was complete—a short, unique reminder of a disconcerting time.
