Clyne’s folklore-inspired tone poem travels to Germany for its European premiere with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Kazuki Yamada in October.

Anna Clyne’s recent orchestral work Woman of the Mountain receives its European premiere on October 4 with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Kazuki Yamada, following its world premiere in April 2026 with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and Courtney Lewis and a performance at the Sun Valley Music Festival led by Alasdair Neale on August 3. Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, a co-commissioner, performs the work on November 14, with further performances to be announced.

Kazuki Yamada also leads the world premiere of Clyne’s viola concerto Resonant Forms in March 2027 with soloist Lawrence Power and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where Clyne serves as Composer in Residence through the 2026-2027 season.

Woman of the Mountain is set in five parts: “Awakening,” “Searching,” “Yearning,” “Discovery,” and “Arrival,” and incorporates the traditional Irish song “Sliabh na mBan” (“Mountain of the Women”). The folk song takes its name from the mountain Slievenamon in County Tipperary, Ireland.

The rugged landscape of the mountain inspired the 20-minute tone poem, which “evokes the journey of an extraordinary woman in the throes of the natural world on a quest for love as she reaches a mountain’s summit,” says the composer. Clyne has dedicated Woman of the Mountain to her close friend Sophie August, whom she has described as being a “rock on this wonderful journey since our teens.”

This season also includes the world premiere of The Seven Ravens with the Calidore Quartet in Stockholm (Oct 10), before they travel to Shriver Hall in Baltimore, Maryland (May 2).
