B&H welcomes EAMDC to its New York offices as the two companies announce a new North American licensing deal in January 2021.

Boosey & Hawkes (B&H), a Concord company, and Schott Music, the 250-year-old international music publisher based in Mainz, Germany, are pleased to announce that effective January 1, 2021, B&H’s New York office is now the key service provider for Schott’s US rental and licensing business, European American Music Distributors Company (EAMDC). The move is an extension of the nearly 20-year collaboration between the two firms in Europe.

EAMDC is the North American rental and licensing representative for the complete catalogs of the Schott Group, Universal Edition, Faber Music, and Bärenreiter, among others. Highlights of EAMDC’s complete offering range from Orff’s Carmina Burana and Stravinsky’s Firebird (Schott) to Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin Music), The Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht in collaboration with Elisabeth Hauptmann (European American Music Corporation), Arvo Pärt’s Tabula Rasa (UE), George Benjamin’s Written on Skin and Thomas Ades’ The Tempest (Faber Music), and Zappa’s G-Spot Tornado (Munchkin Music).

Long-serving EAMDC executives Norman Ryan, Vice President for Composers & Repertoire, and Caroline Kane, Vice President for Licensing & Administration, along with Director of Promotion Lauren Ishida, Director of Rental Services Doriana Molla, and Rental Coordinator Tamika Gorski, join the B&H New York team, ensuring continuity of knowledge and experience in looking after EAMDC and its represented catalogs. Among the services now provided under this agreement are music rental and licensing, including grand rights, synchronization and mechanicals; and continued promotion of the full suite of EAMDC catalogs. Schott’s North American publishing operations—encompassing new signings, composer management, editorial, and the PSNY initiative—will continue as a separate enterprise with which Ryan and Kane will continue to be involved.

Steven Lankenau, B&H Senior Vice President, will oversee the EAMDC team as part of his role in charge of B&H operations in North and South America. Lankenau states: “We are thrilled that the EAMDC team will be joining us to maintain and extend their well-earned reputation for excellence in the performance world.” John Minch, President, Concord International Publishing states: “Our long partnership with Schott has been extraordinary, and I am very happy that we can add another element to it. Under the visionary leadership of Peter Hanser-Strecker and Ronald Freed, EAMDC has developed a tremendous reputation for knowledge and service over more than 40 years.”

Dr. Peter Hanser-Strecker, President of Schott Music, states: “We are delighted to strengthen our great collaboration with Boosey & Hawkes, which has been very beneficial to both companies over nearly two decades. It makes perfect sense for us to work with the fine B&H team to allow EAMDC to continue to offer top-level service and expertise to both our customers and the publishers it represents in these challenging times. I am sure this will be the beginning of a new and even greater success for both companies.”

Boosey & Hawkes has been expanding its relationships with other major classical music publishers in recent years. In November 2020, B&H signed a new global agreement with Oxford University Press for music rental and stage licensing, after many years of representing OUP's hire catalog in Germany and Switzerland. In 2019, B&H parent company Concord acquired the esteemed classical music publisher, The Sikorski Music Publishing Group, home to a wide range of major works by legendary composers such as Dmitri Shostakovich, Sergei Prokofieff, Aram Khachaturian, Dmitri Kabalevsky, and Alfred Schnittke, plus ongoing relationships with important active composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina and Lera Auerbach.
