"Pure" chart success for Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man!
Not only is The Armed Man still in the classical album chart top ten, it’s also featured on the new no 1 album Pure by singing sensation Hayley Westenra. The album, which has also just gone Gold in the UK and is no 8 in the pop charts includes the Benedictus from Jenkins’ stunning Mass for Peace.
To mark this success B&H has published Benedictus in an arrangement for voice and piano.
Choirs across the UK are also performing the work, with no less than 20 performances planned between now and Christmas!
Choirs wanting to put on their own concert can perform the complete work (a vocal score is now available) or perform a suite of the four mass movements and the Hymn Before Action (a concert suite is also available). Arranged for SATB chorus and piano/organ its suitable as a concert item or within a liturgical setting - a stunning contemporary mass alternative.
Karl Jenkins will be celebrating his 60th birthday next year, and as part of the celebrations Opus/S4C will be filming a concert performance of The Armed Man on 11th January. The Mass will be performed by Cywair, Serendipity, the John S Davies Singers and Côr Caerdydd with soloists to be announced in due course, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera. Karl will conduct the concert at St David's Hall, Cardiff, the first half of which will feature royal harpist Catrin Finch performing excerpts from the album Crossing The Stone which she recorded with Karl and released last June.
