Ana, the young daughter of traveling diplomats, has lived in many countries, but none of them feel like home. Ever since her family moved away from Mexico, she has hidden herself away, clinging to memories of her friends, her familiar streets, and the music and colors she misses dearly. Her constant longing slowly begins to silence her curiosity about the new world around her.
But Ana is not completely alone. Her shadow—playful, daring, and eager for adventure—feels trapped by Ana’s refusal to engage with their new home. One day, frustrated andlonging for freedom, the shadow steps away from Ana and slips out into the world on its own.
Separated for the first time, Ana and her shadow each begin a journey of discovery. The shadow explores the vibrant mix of cultures around them, encountering children whose languages, customs, and appearances differ but who share the same dreams of belonging. Meanwhile, Ana must confront her fears—of losing her identity, of forgetting where she comes from, and of not fitting in anywhere.
As the distance between them grows, both Ana and her shadow realize how much they depend on one another. They must decide whether they can truly live apart, or whether the only way to heal is to rediscover the balance between holding on to their roots and opening themselves to new ways of being.
In the end, Ana learns that identity is not lost by crossing borders; it grows. When she and her shadow reunite, they shine together—no longer afraid of the differences around them, and no longer divided within themselves.
