Composer's Notes

"Tchaikovsky is my favourite composer, whose dramatic music has always fascinated me. I first heard his music as a child, because his works were played everywhere in the Soviet Union. I was already playing piano pieces by him at the age of six. (...) Playing in a non-musical sense? For me, that means playing inventively with the concept of time and memory, as is my task in this particular case.
In my work Schmerz und Vorahnung I have tried to achieve a more cinematic effect by transporting the listener into Tchaikovsky's thoughts and his emotional environment. Tchaikovsky is here immersed in his own world, somehow hazy, dreamy and tragic, foreshadowing the last moments of his life. I try to create a conflict between two realities and drastically connect Tchaikovsky's inner thoughts with the outer world." (Aziza Sadikova)
