“The Fantasia elegiaca for cello and piano is my third small work of this kind. Experience has shown that shorter compositions are generally more readily accepted by performers – I have witnessed this firsthand on several occasions. This was the case with my Canzona, which I wrote for David Geringas years ago, as well as with the miniature 3x4, composed for Julius Berger’s 60th birthday. Such less extensive pieces are easier to integrate into concert programs and also require considerably less preparation time than lengthy sonatas – not to mention concerts.
I hope that my Fantasia elegiaca will be an effective piece, demanding above all a beautiful sound and expressiveness from the performer, and I hope that it will bring joy and artistic satisfaction to future performers.” (Krzysztof Meyer)
