Composer's Notes

“This music has existed since time immemorial. Distant signals, cries, echos, melodic fragments which die away and disappear as soon as they are heard. Tentative motion. Convergence with harmonic centres. Renewed retreat. Extinction. Night. Then the sudden intrusion of a dark counter-image. Distant violence. This also dies away. White noise. At last the music encounters itself; it seems to listen to itself as if it had been transformed by a liberating experience. And then it disappears as if it had been faded out, as if it were giving itself up.” (Peter Ruzicka)
