In his cycle of seven songs ‘Letters from Composers’, Dominick Argento uses excerpts from letters by famous composers that contain such central insights into their thoughts and feelings that he felt compelled to capture them musically. Specifically, the American composer, who died in 2019, chose texts by Chopin, Mozart, Schubert, Bach, Debussy, Puccini, and Schumann.
