Bibel, acts 2:17-21 (E)

“The text of the work comes from some of the most horrifying yet poetic lines from the Bible. „The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon to blood“. Is it a metaphor or glimpse of the future? Does it refer to our own times with its blood and blindness? ‘Blood and fire and billows of smoke’ – is it a painting of apocalypse or a description of everyday reality? Do we hear a voice of hope as through this suffering will arise the ‘glorious day of the Lord’ – or does it mean the end of existence as we know it?
The choice of organ is not a coincidence – an instrument long associated with religion, its capacity of sustaining sound is somewhat inhuman and therefore terrifying. Wind instruments and singers grasp for breath, string bows end, piano and percussion sound dies away after stroke, yet organ is capable to sustain notes endlessly, thus giving them inescapable, fate-like character.”
