Why ‘Score Something New’?

Boosey & Hawkes created the Harmony Fund to widen access to orchestral performance, strengthen community-based music making, and encourage more performances across its wide-ranging catalogue. The initial discount scheme is intended to give UK groups the freedom to programme adventurous, diverse and contemporary works, while introducing audiences to new sounds, new stories and new composers.

Extending programming into fresh areas isn’t just artistically exciting, it can attract audiences and additional group members, as well as forging new community connections. This initiative forms the heart of Score Something New, which encourages groups to take artistic risks, diversify their programming and use repertoire to reach new people.

The Boosey & Hawkes catalogue encompasses some of the world's most performed living composers, such as John Adams, Anna Clyne and Karl Jenkins. It spans repertoire with a wide range of inspirations: vibrant, rhythmic music by GRAMMY award-winner Gabriela Ortiz; jazz and gospel-infused works by Courtney Bryan; and cinematic video game themes by Christopher Tin. Prolific 20th-century voices include Bernstein, Britten, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich.
