‘The ‘Psalm 100’ for children's choir is dedicated to Melanie Silverman. Melanie was one of the most remarkable and courageous children who always brought much cheerfulness to those around her. She lived in Los Angeles and died of cancer a few years ago at the age of nine. I wrote this psalm for her while I was staying with her grandparents Herbert and Beverly Gelfand. Herbert and Beverly are both active in the Los Angeles cultural scene. I first met them at the Aspen Music Festival in 1993, and since then they have become a kind of guardian angel for me. Just a few weeks before Melanie died, I played my ‘Psalm 100’ for her. After her death, a foundation was set up in her name to support cancer research at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles.’ (Lera Auerbach)
