The inspirations behind Bells of Tatev (2023) include the sound of bells, awe-inspiring mountains, Armenian folk music-like inflections, and a meditative element. Located high on a mountainside, Tatev Monastery is known for its serenity and isolation, while the piece also draws on cherished memories of summers spent in Armenia. Recurring bell-like motifs punctuate the composition: smaller bells are heard at the opening, followed by larger bells in the lower register, and finally distant bells appearing as a descant in the upper register.
