Two narratives are interspersed in Christmas Lullaby. The first one is a mother singing a lullaby to her son, and the second one is the larger narrative of Jesus Christ’s life, as told through the text of the Bible. Arakelyan wrote this carol just a few months after her own son’s birth. Naturally, lullabies were at the forefront of the composer's mind at the time and made a lovely connecting point to the nativity story! With works paraphrased from the gospels of John and Luke, interspersed with text by the composer, Christmas Lullaby is an approachable carol for SATB choir and piano with minimal divisi in the upper vocal parts.
