'I am a pool' is taken from 'A Memory of the Ocean' (2023), a collection of pieces scored for choir, piano and cello. The text is a setting of The Sea-Wind by American poet, Sara Teasdale (1884–1933). Commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams, the piece is reflective and expansive, depicting the vast breadth of the sea with sweeping cello lines interjecting throughout the work. The entry of the piano, delicate and glinting, anticipates and represents the ocean’s sparkly surface, the sound of the sea itself. For intermediate to advanced choirs. An extracted cello part is included.
