"Die Sonate Nr. 3 für Violine und Klavier habe ich im Dezember 2005 in Bremen vollendet. Ich äußere mich ungern 'über' die Musik, denn Musik handelt nicht von etwas, sondern genügt sich selbst. Außermusikalische Gedanken wie zum Tod, Erinnerung, Gewalt, Furcht oder Hoffnung, (...) Reflexionen der unterschiedlichen Gesichter der Zeit also, sind natürlich unausweichlich. So gesehen zeichnet sich die Natur dieses Werkes durch eine kraftvolle Dunkelheit aus, die mich glücklich machte. Manchmal braucht das Leid ein Ventil, um sich zu lösen, weshalb die Arbeit an dieser Sonate eine Freude für mich bedeutete. Das Werk wurde von den 'Arizona Friends of Chamber Music' in Auftrag gegeben und von der Harry and Lea Gudelsky Foundation im Gedenken an H. Paul Gudelsky unterstützt. Mein persönlicher Dank gilt auch Harrier Silberman und Jean-Paul Bierny, die den Auftrag ermöglicht haben, und natürlich Stefan Milenkovich für die Aufführung der Sonate.“

“Sonata No. 3 was completed in December 2005 in Bremen, Germany. I don't want to write what the work is 'about', because ultimately music is not about anything, but the music itself. Extra-musical thoughts, of course, are inescapable and, as with other works of mine, explore thoughts of death, memories, violence, fear and hope, reaching beyond the frames of gravity, beyond the limitations of the everyday existence - reflections on the different faces of the time we are living in. Although this work's nature is powerful in its darkness, it made me very happy. Sometimes the pain needs to be addressed in order to be freed and released and perhaps this is why this sonata was a joy for me to compose. The work was commissioned by the 'Arizona Friends of Chamber Music', sponsored by the Harry and Lea Gudelsky Foundation in memory of H. Paul Gudelsky. My personal thanks also to Harriet Silverman and Jean-Paul Bierny for making this commission possible and, of course, to Stefan Milenkovich for performing it."
