The Goldberg Variations BWV 988 is the last of a series of keyboard music Bach published under the title of Clavier Ubung, and is a remains particularly ambitious and demanding piece in the Harpsichord repertoire.

These variations are based on a single ground bass theme and display not only Bach's exceptional knowledge of differing styles, but also his exquisite compositional techniques.

The present edition offers the text of the New Bach Edition. This revised text, for which the original print as the primary source prevails, results from a systematic collation of all available sources and, for the first time, takes into account Bach’s personal copy of the original print, which contains important corrections and additions.
