This gorgeous version of the famous extensive piece in E flat major from the third part of the Clavier-Übung was devoted by Heribert Breuer, director of the Berliner Bach Akademie and editor of the series published under the same name by Simrock, to the conductor and church-musician Helmuth Rilling on the occasion of his 70th birthday. It is arranged for a Baroque festival orchestra: 3 trumpets in C, timpani, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 bassoons, strings and harpsichord. This body of instruments allows this masterpiece to be magnificently performed at oratory or church-music concerts.
