Patchwork was created out of the necessity to write an easy-to-play, melodious and swinging piece for my students, which also contains notated solo parts.The piece keeps to an A-B-A form moving along in a varied and rhythmical way. The following 16-bar alto solo is accompanied by the alto 2 and the tenor saxophone playing rhythmical riffs and by the baritone in a walking bass manner.At the beginning, the tenor saxophone solo is merely supported by the baritone playing quarter notes until, finally, the complete set of instruments joins in and leads back to the theme.
