Brooklyn Rider —“the future of chamber music,” according to Strings magazine—celebrates its 10th anniversary this fall with a major multi-disciplinary project called the Brooklyn Rider Almanac, beginning with a new Mercury Classics album of specially commissioned work from a diverse group of composers.

Following on from the multi-disciplinary spirit of the quartet's namesake, Der Blaue Reiter Almanac, these works are each inspired by a creative muse of the composer's choice – from funk legend James Brown to iconic choreographer Mark Morris.

They are all world premiere recordings and an expansion of the string quartet repertoire into unknown artistic and fun territories.

Composers include Jazz legend Bill Frisell, Greg Saunier from indie rock band Deerhof, Vijay Iyer, Glen Kotche (drummer of Wilco), singer-songwriter Christina Courtin and the groups own Colin Jacobson.
