And Suddenly It's Evening is a nocturne for violin and chamber orchestra, very much of the "English school", with a winding lyrical theme which slowly builds towards a passionate crescendo before returning from whence it came. It was inspired by a poem by Salvatore Quasimodo (1901-1968). Paul Carr
