"A wonderful song that should be heard more, especially at Christmas. Deceptively simple in both meaning and execution, but eloquently expressive in the right performance. As in 'Bethlehem Down', Bruce Blunt's words capture the mood to perfection.
Two apparent misprints need reassessing: the second word of l.3 in v.1 is mismatched between the prefaced poem and the version found in the music ('are'/'were'); and the chords at the end of b.1 and beginning of b.2 (RH) should surely be tied?"
