As in Circuit Training (1997) this book has been written to help encourage the student and teacher develop both the physical and mental approaches of an instrumentalist in a one to one lesson, group or mixed ensemble. In Circuit Training Volume 2 Professor Gane has written down most of the core games, exercises, patterns and ideas that have influenced and motivated his teaching over the past 30 years. In his role as Professor of Trombone at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Trombone Coach to the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and European Union Youth Orchestras he has successfully used all of the exercises included , most of which have been taught aurally.

Some of the key concepts such as ‘Virtual Reality’ – ‘Mental Practice’ work well in both one to one and ensemble situations. In a series of nine videos, recorded alongside my colleague Chris Houlding, I will present the core elements from both Circuit Training 1 and 2.
