Four Spirituals
1. There's a little wheel a-turnin' in my heart

These settings of African-American religous folk songs were written with younger voices in mind but they are equally appropriate for more mature ensembles. Although the set comprises four individuals pieces, they may be performed separately or in other configurations. Each piece sets its own mood. The first and last, There's a Little Wheel a-Turnin' in My Heart, and Little David, Play on Your Harp are both jubilant and sprightly with rhythmic accompaniments. The second setting, Lit'l Boy, How Old Are You? is very contmplative and should never be pushed or rushed but rather be allowed to unfold as naturally as possible. The third piece, This Little Light of Mine is an intimate and introspective song of faith and praise. For treble voices in two parts (SA).
