Prince Edwin falls in love with the cabaret star Sylva Varescu, an attachment much frowned upon by Edwin's noble family. Edwin's Parents hastily arrange a marriage between him and his distant cousin, the Countess Anastasia, who soon falls in love with Edwin's friend Boni. This wonderful evocation of Viennese café society, with its swirling waltz melodies and fiery Hungarian dances, elevated Emmerich Kálmán to the ranks of the greatest operetta composers. Filmed at Sydney Opera House.
