Fourteen polonaises selected from a vast musical output of Karol Kurpinski one of the most distinguished figures of Polish musical life in the first half of the nineteenth century, a composer, conductor, teacher, writer on current musical topics and director of the Warsaw Opera. Kurpinski wrote most of his polonaises for orchestra. He also arranged them for piano, and hence they retained some traces of orchestral texture (it is mainly the piano versions of the polonaises that have been preserved). Andrzej and Krystyna Koszewski have made a new selection of Kurpinskis polonaises and edited them for the present publication, adapting them to the needs of present day pianistic practice.
