Mahler’s original orchestration for the Adagietto was for harp and strings. This transcription has been arranged for double choir and harp and where possible the work should be performed with this combination in order to stay as close as possible to Mahler’s original intentions. However the harp does not play all the time and if a harp is not available it is possible to perform the work unaccompanied.
