Marin Marais (1656-1728), the esteemed French Baroque composer, also played the viol and viola da gamba for Louis XIV. He wrote nearly 600 pieces for his instrument, extending over 5 volumes that contained, among other things, some forty suites. Nicolas Prost proposes a selection of 24 pieces adapted to the saxophone that can easily be played in concert, or used as virtuosic melodic studies, from intermediate level students onwards.
