The Horn Concerto in E-flat major was composed in 1781 during an extremely productive period as far as Mozart’s instrumental writing was concerned (1779-1781). It has survived but only in fragments. The piece was supposedly written for the Salzburg virtuoso Joseph Leitgeb. This is a particularly special edition of the Rondo for Horn and Piano due to the expertise of the editor, Bernhard Paumgartner. As a Mozart specialist and as Director of the Salzburg Mozarteum for many years, Bernhard Paumgartner’s profound knowledge of Mozart and the musical practice of his time is clearly evident in his editorial work.
