These "Two Little Serenades" display the great conductor Andre Previn's compositional skill. This talent is often overlooked in comparison to his more high-profile career, but it was through composition that he was introduced to conducting at the age of 18 after writing and conducting the film score to The Sun Comes Up (1949).

The first piece, Noah, is gentle and reflective with wide intervals forming most of the material, while the second, Naava, is flowing and rhythmically taxing.
