This second book of duets, for players of similar ability, once again provides an opportunity for saxophonists to enjoy fun sessions of music making. The pieces within, range in difficulty from approximately Grade 5-Grade 8. Aim to play these stylistically, and to achieve good ensemble, through sympathetic musical interaction and technical accuracy. Markings of tempo should be regarded as merely a guide.

‘Take Two Saxophones : Book 1’ is now available from Astute Music, together with a version for clarinets. The keys in both books are compatible when played on alto sax with clarinet, offering greater versatility, especially for teaching purposes. Also, 10 of the 12 duets in this book, are compatible with book2, of the clarinet versions. The exceptions are: ‘Travellin’ Light’ and ‘Benny’s Bounce’, which, for technical reasons, are not possible to interchange.

Duets played a key role in my own development as a young player and were a great source of enjoyment to me. It is with that in mind that these books have been produced, and it is my aim to expand further on the limited repertoire available to us, at a more challenging level of performance.
