Saint-Saëns's 'The Swan', from Carnival of the Animals, is a beautiful tune which has become one of the world's best-known classical melodies: the movement is warm and expressive, evoking the gliding grace of a contemplative swimming swan.
"I played this piece of music for my baritone (brass) Grade 6 exam 'C' piece in November 2007 and gained Distinction. My examiner, a cellist, found this to be a wonderful arrangement, even though the baritone has a somewhat thinner sound than the euphonium.
Providing the breathing is taken in the correct places, this piece flows well and the accompaniment underpins the soloist providing it is played smoothly and sympathetically.
The arrangement is just right, not too heavy or busy, but a good balance of harmony."
