Composer’s note
Blessed are the peacemakers was commissioned as a retirement gift for Canadian organist and choir director Paul Merrit. It was first performed in 2016 at First-St Andrew’s United Church, London, Ontario, Canada. This setting of the well-known words makes use of a simple repeating melody which gradually builds through the piece. There are plenty of opportunities for sustained lines and a blended sound on the soft harmonies.
