MUSIC INSPIRED BY HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN
Odense Symphony Orchestra
Ole Schmidt, conductor

About
Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale universe seems tailor-made for musical treatment. This CD presents a unique handful of Danish works, all with their origins in Andersen’s art. While the Romantic works on the recording were composed during Andersen’s lifetime in close collaboration with the writer himself, the Late Romantic and modern works were created with Andersen’s immortal tales as their poetic source. Hear how the inspiration is manifested on this recording featuring the orchestra of Andersen's native town, Odense Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ole Schmidt.

Reviews
With orchestral playing that is assured and colourful, this enjoyable disc offers a rewarding discovery of little-known music
(Limelight Magazine)

... Det er musik...værd at lytte til, ikke mindst fordi Odense Symfoniorkester spiller musikken med entusiasme og giver den videre på rette måde - med eventyrglans.
(Lolland-Falster Folketidende)

Glimrende spil af Odense Symfoniorkester under Ole Schmidts ledelse...
(Musikeren).

great fun, superbly performed by Odense Orchestra under Ole Schmidt. Cracking sound, too.
(Nordic Sounds)

Louis Glass' Suite from Elf-Hill is full of tinkling celesta and is delicately scored, aptly evoking the necessary fantastic atmosphere.
(Classics Today)

Lively, colourfull performances of music by little known names such as Enna, Weyse, Schierbeck, Hartmann, Louis Glass and Høffding make this a highly enjoyable disc of discoveries.
