About
This disc illustrates succesive generations of Danish composers.
The most famous figure, Carl Nielsen, wrote music ranging from simple songs to complex and demanding symphonies.
Vagn Holmboe found inspiration in the anti-romantic tendencies between the two World Wars.
Per Nørgård belongs to a group of composers who have used the techniques of Modernism to their own ends.
Hans Abrahamsen represents another trend that has rejected the complexity of serialism, but upholds its demand for rigid control of the compositional process.
Reviews
The Scandinavian Woodwind Quintet is a wonderful group that has one of the smoothest, best-blend sounds I have heard (American Record Guide)
***** (BBC Music Magazine)
The most immediately striking about this release is how wonderful it sounds ... The playing is delightful
