The iconic VERVE label celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013, and this milestone is celebrated with the release of this box set – which brings together 100 singles from the history of the label. The list of artists who have recorded for Verve is a who’s who of jazz – Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Stan Getz, Charlie Parker and many many more. The label was also instrumental in breaking down race barriers in the USA, with its Jazz At The Philharmonic concerts, which brought black and white musicians onstage toegther.
This box set also includes a 32 page book, with never before seen archive photographs, interview transcripts and contributions from Herbie Hancock, David Foster, Wayne Shorter and many others.
The anniversary of the label is also celebrated in a book which is out on the same day as this box set. Published by Thames & Hudson and written by Richard Havers. The book traces the history of the label from its first recordings right up to the present day.
