Directed and designed by Paolo Panizza, this production captures the emotion and vigor that is the great story of Nabucco. Set in Old Testament Biblical times, the story revolves around King Nabucco and his two daughters, Fenena and Abigaille, Jewish persecution and a struggle for power.

The program notes explained that the sets were intended to have no specific origin, and the designs do indeed consist of a mixture of styles, rich in colour, texture and with suitable grandure where necessary.

Italian Ambrogio Maestri leads a superb cast in the title role as Nabucco. The highly acclaimed Verdi-singer is considered to be one of the finest baritones of his generation and Andrea Gruber, praised by The Financial Times for her "marvellous freedom and generosity of tone" sets a high standard as his counter part.
The production is very well performed as a whole, with an excellent chorus, rightfully deserving the ovation they received after 'Va pensiero'.
