With her Russian Rag, a Latin version of Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C sharp minor and one of her best known pieces, Elena Kats-Chernin proved that she is a 'tanguera'… Even the miniature Luke’s Painting (recorded by the Acacia Quartet on the CD Blue Silence on the label Vexations840) pays homage to the most melancholy of all dances. Here, however, the tango is not so much dramatic as soft and pensive, with a questioning end.
