Commissioned by The Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, in celebration of the school’s tercentenary

Composer's note
Commissioned by William Saunders for the Royal Hospital School, Ipswich in 2013, Exalt us in Your love is based loosely on the words of the Royal Hospital School Prayer. There is plenty of room for rubato in this piece, but keep returning to the tempo so that forward momentum is maintained, especially in drier acoustics. It’s also important to make the most of the contrasting dynamics.

Recommended recording: Will Todd: Lux et Veritas (Signum SIGCD394) by Tenebrae, conducted by Nigel Short.
