'... I had just discovered the beautiful orchestral work by Debussy "Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune". The opening flute melody was firmly lodged in my mind and I decided to write a piece with the fluid rhythms and the opening interval of an augmented fourth as the basis.
"Monody for a lost Faun" was first performed on 23 November 1985 at a lunchtime recital, at the Gordon House campus of West London Institute of Higher Education, Borough Road, Twickenham by Gay Stubbs.' (Adrian Connell)
